#NCC2022 Drainage Changes are set to make a big impact in the coming months. Whilst these are largely positive, one change in particular, could cause systemic spatial issues on projects if not picked up early. The change stems from the 2021 version of AS 3500.2 (the plumbing and drainage standard). The updated standard is due to be adopted under NCC 2022 and requires all 100mm branch drains will to be installed with a minimum 15° incline (the previous standard was silent this issue). The intent of this change is to reduce the risk of the partial backwash into the pipe, which can lead to blockages in the drain. However, as illustrated by CCG below, the 15° incline has the potential to reduce vertical clearances and as such will need to be considered early by teams where designing to comply with NCC 2022 (optional adoption of NCC 2022 can occur from 1 Oct 22 prior to the mandatory adoption on 1 May 23).
