Passive Fire News: The Australian Building Codes Board has announced that the concession permitting reliance on old AS 1530 fire test and assessment reports has again been extended and will now expire on 1 May 2023. It's important to note that although the expiry of the concessions allowing old test & assessment reports aligns with #NCC2022, the change was actually introduced in #NCC2019 as a transitional period intended to give the industry time to comply. As such: ➡️ From 1 May 2023, practitioners working on projects approved under #NCC2019, #NCC2019Amendment1 will need ensure reports being relied upon verify systems achieve a Fire Resistance Level based on the 2014 version of the standard fire test (AS 1530.4-2014), unless confirmed otherwise by the certifying authority. ➡️ Certifiers/Building Surveyors intending to allow the use of passive fire systems which don't have an AS 1530.4-2014 report after the 1 May 2023 expiry based on the building approval being issued prior to this date need to ensure they assess and reference the passive fire systems in their building approval, rather than accept them at occupation stage. #NCC2022 Drainage Changes are set to make a big impact in the coming months. Whilst these are largely positive, one change in particular, could cause systemic spatial issues on projects if not picked up early. The change stems from the 2021 version of AS 3500.2 (the plumbing and drainage standard). The updated standard is due to be adopted under NCC 2022 and requires all 100mm branch drains will to be installed with a minimum 15° incline (the previous standard was silent this issue). The intent of this change is to reduce the risk of the partial backwash into the pipe, which can lead to blockages in the drain. However, as illustrated by CCG below, the 15° incline has the potential to reduce vertical clearances and as such will need to be considered early by teams where designing to comply with NCC 2022 (optional adoption of NCC 2022 can occur from 1 Oct 22 prior to the mandatory adoption on 1 May 23).
